This Privacy Policy explains how The Cut ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information when you use The Cut's mobile app and services ("App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
The Cut refers to The Cut LLC, a Colorado limited liability company, the community, the app, and all products/services that it operates. The Cut's mobile app and services are intended for use in the United States only and are not directed at residents of the European Union or European Economic Area.
We collect the following information when you apply for or use The Cut:
We use your information to: send you push notifications about your account status, including application status updates, payment reminders, and other account-related alerts (we will not use your information for marketing or promotional messages); operate and improve the App; verify your identity; facilitate the App functionality; process payments; communicate with you about your account; and enforce our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
We send SMS messages to your phone number exclusively for one-time passcode (OTP) verification when you log in or create an account. We do not send marketing, promotional, or other messages via SMS. Message and data rates may apply.
We collect email addresses solely to notify you about the launch and availability of The Cut in your area. Your email will not be used for marketing unrelated to The Cut's launch and will not be shared with third parties. If The Cut does not launch in your area, your waitlist email address will not be used and will be permanently deleted.
When you subscribe to membership, The Cut validates your Apple In-App Purchase receipt server-side and receives subsequent notifications from Apple about the status of your subscription (renewals, expirations, grace periods, refunds, and billing issues) through Apple's App Store Server Notifications. We use these signed notifications to maintain an accurate record of your subscription state and to apply lapse or refund logic to your account. We do not receive or store your Apple ID credentials, payment card details, or device identifiers through this process.
The Cut may, at its discretion, use third-party identity verification services to confirm member identity, detect duplicate or fraudulent accounts, or prevent abuse of the platform. Any data shared with such services is limited to what is necessary for the specific verification or check.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes. We do not use advertising networks or third-party analytics services. We may share your information with a limited set of service providers that help us operate the App, subject to confidentiality obligations, and with law enforcement or regulatory authorities when required by law or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
The categories of service providers we use are:
If your application to The Cut is not approved, your phone number will be retained for a period of 12 months from the date of rejection. This is solely to enforce our reapplication waiting period and prevent circumvention of the review process. No other personal data is retained after rejection. After 12 months, your phone number is permanently deleted from our systems. By submitting an application to The Cut, you consent to this retention practice.
While your account is active, we retain your profile data, photos, and message history to operate the service. If you delete your account, your profile, photos, messages, matches, and associated personal data are permanently deleted. We may retain transaction records for up to 7 years to comply with applicable tax and accounting laws, or anonymized analytical data.
When a like expires or a match's conversation window (shot clock) expires, the associated match record and any message content are permanently deleted from our systems. You cannot recover expired matches or messages. Aggregate analytics derived from such interactions — such as interaction counts — may be retained in anonymized form.
The Cut may retain limited records related to enforcement actions, reports, and legal hold obligations even after your account has otherwise been deleted. This is solely to maintain a defensible record of violations and responses and to comply with applicable law.
Photos you upload are stored using third-party cloud infrastructure providers, which are subject to confidentiality obligations. They are visible to other members and applicants as part of the voting and matching process. Upon account deletion, all photos are permanently removed from storage.
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We use reputable third-party cloud infrastructure providers to store and process your data. While we take reasonable steps to ensure these providers meet appropriate security standards, we are not liable for data loss, unauthorized access, or service interruptions caused by third-party infrastructure failures.
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting us at privacy@datethecut.com. Note that certain data may be retained as described in Sections 4 and 5 above. You may also delete your account directly within the App via Settings.
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including: the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used; the right to request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions; the right to correct inaccurate personal information; the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell personal information); and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. California residents may submit requests by contacting us at privacy@datethecut.com.
The Cut is not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will terminate their account and delete their data.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the App or your registered contact information. Continued use of the App following notice of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
